Assoc. Prof. Dr. Indra Prasad Acharya
PRESIDENT

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Indra Prasad Acharya
Dr. Indra Prasad Acharya is currently serving as the President of the Nepal Geotechnical Society for the 2025–2027 term. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
From 2021 to 2025, Dr. Acharya served as the Campus Chief of IOE, Pulchowk Campus, where his visionary academic and administrative leadership led the campus to be recognized as the Best Campus among all Tribhuvan University campuses in 2023. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, he was honored with the National Education Prize in 2024. Dr. Acharya’s research excellence is equally notable. A collaborative research paper co-authored with Dr. Mandip Subedi received the Best Paper Award–2022 from the journal Geoenvironmental Disasters (Springer Publication) for the study titled “Liquefaction Hazard Assessment and Ground Failure Probability Analysis in Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.” He is an active member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and has over 24 years of academic and professional experience in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. His work has been widely published in national and international journals, and he continues to contribute significantly to research, education, and practice. Dr. Acharya earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Pulchowk Campus, IOE, Tribhuvan University. He completed his M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), and obtained his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India. He has been actively involved with the Nepal Geotechnical Society since 2005, serving as an executive member from 2005 to 2018, as Senior Vice President from 2018 to 2025, and now as President.

Dr. Dhundi Raj Pathak

Dr. Dhundi Raj Pathak
Dr. Dhundi Raj Pathak is the founding director of the Engineering Study and Research Centre, Nepal, and currently serves as the President of the Center of Research for Environment, Energy and Water (CREEW), a scientific research organization based in Nepal. He is also a visiting faculty member at Tribhuvan University. Dr. Pathak served as an executive member of the Nepal Geotechnical Society from 2023 to 2025 and is currently the Senior Vice President for the 2025–2027 term. He holds a Ph.D. in geoenvironmental engineering from Japan. and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University in 2001, and a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the same institute in 2005. Dr. Pathak is the recipient of the Nepal Bidhya Bhusan Award Class-A, the highest academic honor bestowed by the Government of Nepal, and the Nepal Bidhya Bhusan Award Class-B for securing the top rank in his Master’s program in Geotechnical Engineering from Tribhuvan University. He has been extensively involved in research and development projects on integrated solid waste management (ISWM) and is currently associated with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a Solid Waste Management Expert. He has also worked with the World Bank and several other development and government agencies in the fields of geoenvironmental engineering and integrated waste management. In addition to his work in waste management, Dr. Pathak contributes as a geotechnical engineer to various infrastructure projects. He played a key role in drafting the geotechnical guidelines for bridge foundations for the Local Road Bridge Support Unit of the Government of Nepal. As an external expert, he has reviewed research and design reports related to integrated waste management and geotechnical engineering. He was appointed by the Government of Nepal as a technical expert member for the Integrated Solid Waste Management project of the Kathmandu Valley. He has received several fellowships and research grants and actively participates in international conferences as a member of scientific and organizing committees, including GeoMandu and GeoAsia8. He serves as an editor of the Proceedings of GeoMandu and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals. He is also a regular reviewer for various environmental engineering journals.

Dr. Mohan Prasad Acharya

Dr. Mohan Prasad Acharya
Dr. Acharya holds a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, and an MSc from Pulchowk Campus, Tribhuvan University. With extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, he has contributed to the design of large Hydropower projects, over 300 bridge foundations, and seismic dam design guidelines for Nepal. His expertise includes slope and tunnel stability, foundation settlement, and design in complex ground conditions.

Er. Jibendra Misra

Er. Jibendra Misra
Jibendra Misra is an accomplished registered engineer specializing in design innovation and public procurement. With a master’s degree in Structural Engineering, he has made significant contributions throughout his career working in various roles within the Department of Roads, including engineer, project manager, and senior divisional engineer, Jibendra has successfully implemented innovative design solutions for bridge and highway projects.
Jibendra’s interest in public procurement has led him to be involved in various committees within the Department of Roads. He has served as a member and member secretary, contributing to departmental-level variation and evaluation committees, and has also delivered numerous lectures related to various aspects of public procurement management.
Currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Ehime University, Japan, his research focuses on bridge foundation, and he is a life member of the Nepal Engineers Association (NEA), Nepal Geotechnical Society (NGS).

Er. Kalpana Adhikari

Er. Kalpana Adhikari
Kalpana Adhikari is a civil engineer with over 17 years of experience, currently serving as Senior Divisional Engineer at the Department of Roads, Government of Nepal. She holds an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering and a BE in Civil Engineering from the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University. Throughout her career, Ms. Adhikari has successfully led prominent infrastructure projects such as the Kaligandaki Corridor, Nagdhunga Tunnel, and Mid-Hill Highway, demonstrating strong leadership, dedication, and honesty. For these qualities, she was honoured with the 2023 Integrity Award.
An active member of the Nepal Geotechnical Society since 2013, she served as Secretary from 2022 to 2023 and currently holds the position of General Secretary for the 2025–2027 term. Additionally, she chairs the Women Engineers Coordination and Welfare Committee under the Nepal Engineers’ Association, advocating for gender inclusion and the professional advancement of women engineers.
Ms. Adhikari’s research and publications focus on slope stability, seismic hazard assessment, and sustainable construction. She was also recognised with the Young Promising Researcher Award by NGS on its 25th anniversary.

Er. Darshan Babu Adhikari

Er. Darshan Babu Adhikari
Darshan Babu Adhikari is a geotechnical engineer with over ten years of professional experience, primarily in the field of hydropower development. His expertise spans underground structural stability, slope stability analysis, and tunnel leakage assessment. Currently serving as Assistant Manager and Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Chilime Jalvidhyut Company Limited, he is actively engaged in project work through Chilime Engineering & Services Company Limited. In this role, he has led key geotechnical investigations and feasibility studies for major hydropower projects, including Seti Nadi-3 (87 MW), Chainpur Seti (210 MW), and Budhi Gandaki Prok (420 MW). He has also played a vital role in the tunnel leakage mitigation strategy for the Sanjen Hydroelectric Project and the slope stabilization works for the Chilime Hydropower Plant.
Darshan’s academic background includes a Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Additionally, he holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Geological and Climate Risk Assessment from the University of Geneva, Switzerland. His research work has been presented at prominent international platforms such as the ICOLD 2024 Symposium and the 2nd Geomandu Conference 2024.
Technically proficient, Darshan works with a range of geotechnical software including Plaxis 2D, GeoSlope, and the Rocscience Suite, along with tools such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Primavera P6. A registered civil engineer with the Nepal Engineering Council, he is also a member of the Nepal Geotechnical Society and Nepal Tunnel Association. He is committed to promoting sustainable, data-driven geotechnical solutions.

Mr. Regmi is a Geotechnical Engineer, currently working as a Senior Civil Engineer at Full Bright Consultancy Pvt. Ltd and he is also a managing director of A.R. Soil and Engineering Pvt. Ltd. He has more than 16 year working experience in development sector basically in the field of infrastructures development, infrastructure governance and slope stabilization work. In addition, He has experienced in road construction and maintenance along with slope stabilization techniques and bio engineering techniques. Also, he has a good knowledge about the project planning and implementation. He has good working experience with three tiers of Governments, development partners and private sectors too.
Mr. Regmi holds a Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering specializing on Geotechnical Engineering from Saitama University of Japan. The Master’s thesis topic is “stability of subsurface cavity in Base course”.
He is a member of Nepal Engineers’ Association (NEA), Nepal Geotechnical Society (NGS), and also a registered engineer of Nepal Engineering Council (NEC).

I began my professional journey as a site supervisor for the Sisahaniya and Satbariya bridges in Dang, which gave me valuable field experience in bridge construction. I also worked on building design projects during this early phase of my career. After completing my MSc. in Geotechnical Engineering , I joined NS Engineering & Geo-technical Services Pvt. Ltd. and worked on the Kamala–Kanchanpur Road Extension Project, where I was involved in pile testing and quality control. Since 2023, I have been working at Multi Lab (P) Ltd., focusing on soil investigation and geotechnical analysis for a variety of infrastructure projects.

I have six numbers of research publications related to earthquake engineering being author and co author. I also have two and half year part time teaching experience as lecture in IOE , thapathali campus.

Er. Sandip Regmi
Sandip Regmi is a seasoned civil and geotechnical engineer with a strong foundation in engineering design, project leadership, and multidisciplinary consulting. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Kantipur Engineering College, Dhapakhel, in 2017. Early in his career, he worked with Picasso Consultant Pvt. Ltd. for two years, gaining valuable experience in road design, GIS mapping, structural analysis, urban planning, report preparation, and client coordination. His role extended beyond technical execution to team leadership and conducting meetings with various government and private agencies.
In 2018, driven by entrepreneurial vision, Sandip founded Impaxive Engineering Solutions Pvt. Ltd., where he has served as Managing Director. Under his leadership, the company has been engaged in a wide range of engineering consulting services, including survey, master plan preparation, architectural and structural design, estimation, and detailed reporting. His portfolio spans road and building design (residential, commercial, and institutional), water supply systems, irrigation infrastructure, soil investigation, and valuation.
Continuing his journey of innovation and expansion, he founded Aron Engineering Pvt. Ltd. in 2023, a multinational engineering consulting firm. As Managing Director, he has led the company’s collaboration with U.S.-based firms on structural and geotechnical design projects. In Nepal, the firm offers comprehensive consulting services across various engineering disciplines.
Sandip further advanced his academic credentials by completing a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, in 2023. His research focuses on deep excavation and advanced soil constitutive models, and he has published a paper on the subject in an international civil engineering journal.
With a unique blend of technical expertise, entrepreneurial drive, and academic depth, Sandip regmi continues to contribute significantly to the engineering landscape both in Nepal and abroad.

Er. Bishwa Bastakoti

Er. Bishwa Bastakoti
Bishwa Bastakoti is a dedicated geotechnical engineer from Nepal, with a strong academic foundation and extensive industry experience in hydropower infrastructure,slope stabilization and ground improvement. He holds a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, both from the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus. His postgraduate research focused on soil nail wall design and was supported by Nepal’s Department of Roads.
Professionally, Bishwa has served as a Geotechnical Engineer at NEA Engineering Company Limited, where he has been involved in several large-scale hydropower and transmission line projects, including the 1902 MW Mugu Karnali Storage Hydropower Project and the 1063 MW Upper Arun Hydroelectric Project. His work spans reservoir rim stability analysis, underground structure design, geotechnical report preparation, and supervision of complex in-situ testing.
His earlier roles include geotechnical investigations and civil engineering responsibilities at Quartz Drilling and Testing Lab and dam site supervision at the Lower Likhu Hydropower Project. Bishwa has also contributed to academic research projects and published technical papers, including studies on dam overtopping risks and soil nail simulations.
Proficient in software like Plaxis, GeoStudio, and GIS, and trained in Python programming, he blends technical rigor with practical insight. He is a licensed engineer with the Nepal Engineering Council and currently serves as an executive member of the Nepal Geotechnical Society.

Bipul Mainali is a Civil Engineer with a strong academic and professional foundation in geotechnical engineering. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering at Tribhuvan University, Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Himalaya College of Engineering. Mr. Mainali currently serves as an Assistant Lecturer at Universal Engineering and Science College, where he is actively involved in academic instruction and mentoring.
Alongside his academic role, Mr. Mainali has gained practical experience through various consulting projects. His work includes soil investigations, foundation design, slope stability analysis, and other geotechnical services, contributing to both public and private sector infrastructure initiatives. He has also led and participated in survey camps and technical training programs across multiple institutions, sharing his expertise in engineering tools and software.
Mr. Mainali is dedicated to bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application. He has contributed to academic events and publications as a reviewer, organizer, and technical trainer. His areas of interest include geohazards, foundation engineering, and the advancement of sustainable infrastructure practices in Nepal. Passionate about both teaching and fieldwork, he aims to contribute meaningfully to the development of engineering education and practice in the country.
