Nepal Geotechnical Society Announces GeoMandu 2027 International Conference

The Nepal Geotechnical Society (NGS) has officially announced GeoMandu 2027, an international conference on geotechnical engineering, to be held in Kathmandu from March 17 to 19, 2027. The event will be organized in association with the 11th Asian Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference (AYGEC) under ISSMGE and the proposed 1st South Asian Conference on Geotechnics (SACG) under AGSSA.

The announcement ceremony featured Chief Guest Er. Keshab Kumar Sharma, Secretary, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal, and Guest of Honor Prof. Keh-Jian (Albert) Shou, Vice President (Asia), ISSMGE. Regional leaders, including Dr. Anil Joseph (AGSSA/IGS) and Er. Amjad Agha (AGSSA/PGES), also joined online, highlighting strong regional collaboration.

NGS President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Indra Prasad Acharya stated that GeoMandu 2027 reinforces NGS’s mission to strengthen research integration, scientific cooperation, and resilient infrastructure development. He noted that the GeoMandu series has become one of Nepal’s leading technical platforms, with four Springer Nature proceedings volumes and more than 125 published papers.

NGS General Secretary Er. Kalpana Adhikari encouraged broad participation from government, academia, industry, and young professionals.
Conference Chair Dr. Mandip Subedi emphasized that the combined hosting of GeoMandu 2027, 11th AYGEC, and the proposed 1st SACG will create a unified regional platform to address shared Himalayan geotechnical challenges.

Technical Convener Dr. Dhundi Raj Pathak shared that the conference is expected to welcome 500+ delegates, 240+ presentations, keynote lectures, and expert panels, with proceedings published by Springer Nature.
Youth Convener Er. Rajan KC highlighted opportunities for youth leadership, including affordable participation, awards, and mentorship.

With the theme “Mountain Geotechnics for Infrastructure Development,” GeoMandu 2027 will focus on landslides, slope failures, erosion, river dynamics, and seismic resilience—key issues for sustainable national development. International delegates will also have opportunities to experience Nepal’s cultural and natural attractions.
