Nepal Geotechnical Society participated at the 1st Technical Seminar on Disasters & Landslides on Major Highways in Nepal

The Nepal Geotechnical Society (NGS) is proud to share that our Immediate Past President, Dr. Mandip Subedi, delivered a technical presentation on “Geohazards and Road Slope Instabilities in Nepal: Challenges and Way Forward” at the 1st Technical Seminar on Disasters & Landslides on Major Highways in Nepal, held today, 4th September 2025 at Hotel Himalaya, Kathmandu.

The seminar, jointly organized under JICA’s Technical Assistance Program in collaboration with the Department of Roads (DOR), brought together leading experts from Japan and Nepal. Presentations included:

Prof. Dr. Netra Prasad Bhandary (Ehime University, Japan & Past President, NGS): Landslide and Slope Stability Issues in Mountain/Hill Road Construction and Management

Prof. Ryosuke Uzuoka (Kyoto University, Japan): Fundamentals of Rainfall induced Landslide: Effect of Antecedent Intermittent Rainfall Patterns

Er. Mandakini Karki (Society of Consulting Architectural and Engineering Firms Nepal & Past Vice President, NGS): Consulting Practices in Landslide and Road Slope Stability in Nepal

Mr. Robinson Shrestha (Team Leader, JICA Expert Team): New/Proven Countermeasures against Roadside Slope Disasters

The seminar concluded with an engaging discussion session and closing remarks from Er. Arjun Prasad Aryal, Project Director, DDG, DCID, DOR.

Representing NGS, our members Er. Rajan KC, Er. Khemraj Pokhrel, Er. Sandip Regmi, and Er. Bipul Mainali actively participated in the seminar, contributing to knowledge exchange and discussions on sustainable and resilient highway management.
